Through their adventures and their friendship, Jess is finally able to overcome and break free of his fears. * Distinctive Crafting: Paterson does an excellent job of creating this imaginary place where our two main characters are the rulers. She allows the reader to be there with Jess and Leslie; she brings Terabithia to life. Background Demands: Elements of fiction, vocabulary varies by grade, Economics (character’s economics vary) Instructional Activities in Reading/Writing and/or Social Studies: Novel Unit - Clue hunt –get to know the book activity, have the students make predictions - Reading journal: Have the students write their reactions/feelings, thoughts, or predictions after every 2-3 chapters. - Lit. Circles – give students the opportunity to dialogue their thoughts and opinions about the book with one another in a guided literature circle.
